Thank you, Yuri, for giving us a chance to interview you. You are one of Mexico’s most respected performers. And you will be celebrating your 40th anniversary in our music industry. What can you say about this?
I am doing really good and am very thankful for this whole experience. Being in the industry for four decades, wow, I do not know what to say except that it will not be possible without the continuous support and love of all my supporters.\
What does it take to be an international star?
I really did not expect my records to make it big in the international music industry. I mean, my songs are in Spanish and I did not think that they would be able to understand what my songs were all about. But that is the power of music for all of us. Music can transcend countries, languages, and boundaries. It speaks directly to the people’s hearts. As long as you sing from the heart, you establish a connection with your listeners. There is an instant connection.
Do you have any regrets in life?
Hmmm, I will not say that I regret something because everything that happens, whether good or bad, is there to teach us a lesson. When good things happen, we learn to be grateful. When bad things happen, we learn to be strong, to get up and try again.
What advice can you give to our young singers and artists out there?
Know your passion and pursue it. When I was young, I was offered other opportunities but I knew in myself that I loved singing and performing for the people. So I made sure that I did whatever it took to reach my dreams. It was not handed to me on a silver platter. Do not expect life to be that way. You have to work hard every single day to improve yourself, make yourself better, and give your best when the opportunity finally comes knocking on your door.
